With the recent arrival of Olivia Heuser, a third generation has now joined the Kwalata team. This means that Kwalata is not only a premier wildlife viewing area but is in fact a sanctuary for rare and endangered plants and endemic animals, situated within the world’s only savanna biosphere reserve. Kwalata has an abundance of game, allowing guests to enjoy the best of absolutely everything. The Waterberg Mountain range in the northwest is one of South Africa’s lesser-known geographical wonders. The range is bluish in colour and offers spectacular views, lush valleys and peace and quiet away from crowded tourist centres. This area is steeped in history that dates as far back as the stone-age. For the tourist there is a solid infrastructure with a variety of different attractions, and modern conveniences abound. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We, at Kwalata, are involved in the upliftment of the local community through donating meat from hunted game to The Fold, and others in need, as well as funding and fundraising. In particular, Kwalata chose The Fold, a registered orphanage for children abandoned due to AIDS and other social problems, providing them with food, a loving home and ensuring their education. The Fold is a place of love and refuge for orphaned children who have no other family to take care of them. Our goal is to invest in these children for them to make a difference in the future of South Africa and of course their lives. The children are raised with good moral character in a loving and secure environment. They attend church every Sunday and are taught to be respectful to their elders and each other. We hope to bring contagious joy to the lives of those who otherwise would have little or nothing at all. The Fold is located on a farm outside Vaalwater and has family units with up to 8 children with a house mother in each household. There is a junior school about one kilometer from the farm with about 10-15 children per classroom. We are involved with the teaching as well as individual instruction at home. School is taught in English, but the children speak their African language when at The Fold. In future we hope to make computer training available. We wish to help these children to identify and pursue their dreams. In light of this, we want to continue to establish a place of love and refuge for those children who are orphaned with no other family to take care of them. Our goal is to invest in the lives of these children for the long term benefit of themselves, their village and South Africa. The aim is to create a loving and secure environment filled with an atmosphere of contagious joy and promoting a good moral character.
